Bangladesh to gradually replace China as low-cost apparel exporting countries




Bangladesh garment production and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Vice-Chairman recently in the "Chittagong International Fashion Festival 2010" on the media that Bangladesh is gradually being replaced by China to become a major exporter of cheap clothing. He said that Bangladesh garment exports rely mainly on U.S. and European markets, but right now there are many garment exports to Japan and other countries. As the developed countries affected by the impact of the global economic recession tend to be more expensive clothing, many international businesses in China from Bangladesh to give up the purchase of more expensive clothing, and thus the international economic downturn on the Bangladesh garment exports did not cause a significant impact. According to Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau statistics ,2008-09 fiscal year (July 2008-June 2009) Meng 5.918 billion U.S. dollars of export of woven garments, knitted garments 6.429 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 14.54 percent year on year respectively, and 16.21%.





In December 2009 the U.S. apparel retail sales fell last month



According to U.S. Census Bureau in January 2010 first published in the U.S. retail sales data show that overall retail sales in December 2009 fell 0.3% the previous month,; compared with December 2008 increased 5.4%. Drop the accident, showing the high rate of unemployment due to tightening of consumer spending during the holidays.

Retail clothing from the previous month, fell slightly. In December, the U.S. apparel store sales 17.461 billion U.S. dollars, decreased by 0.6% last month, an increase of 5.0%. Integrated stores amounted to 49.965 billion U.S. dollars, decreased by 0.8% last month, an increase of 2.1%. One department store sales amounted to 15.737 billion U.S. dollars, unchanged from last month, down 1.2%.

Clothing from 11 months of inventory-sales ratio of view, both the previous month declined. Clothing & Accessories stores inventory-sales ratio from 10 down to 2.47 months of 2.67. General store inventory-sales ratio from 10 down to 1.50 months of 1.67, which department store inventory-sales ratio from 10 down to 2.05 months of 2.58.
